The sun shone beautifully for the under 7s today and the slight chill in the air didn’t dampen any spirits as Hares took on Letchworth at home. The blacks had a slightly delayed kick off to allow the pitch to thaw which was a welcome additional 30 minutes in bed for the parents!! The game started with a few successful attacks from the away team but the boys soon got into it and played some great football. POTM Reggie well done.
The oranges game saw a debut for Louis who didn’t show any nerves and soon got involved. A little creative management for the opposition left the oranges struggling to be involved but superb goals from Adam and Finley and a MOTM performance from Liam P kept us going. Well done boys and parents/grandparents/aunties for a great morning of football.
Under 8s played away this week to Stotfold, only their third game since December due to cancellations, it was a cold and early start. The kids gave it their all, had fun and they all walked away happy. Player of the match :- Daniel. Star player :- Alfie
With players away and a couple returning from injury today game against Biggleswade Greens was always going to be a tough one for Hares U11 Oranges. Nevertheless Hares still tried to move the ball around and play football. Going into the second half behind, Hares pushed hard to get back into the game, but our finishing looked a little tiresome at times. With Kai unable to finish the match and tired legs all over the pitch, the lads kept working hard right to the end, even with the game beyond reach. Good performances all round, with M.O.T.M going to Toby B.
For the first twenty minutes of today’s game Hares U11 Yellows kept our shape and passed the ball very well. We created lots of chances but couldn’t finish and as the frustration grew we lost a bit of discipline. I don’t think anybody could have expected so many goals in the second half. A brilliant effort from a long range shot by Zane might have been enough to settle us down but King George came straight back. Javi scored and again and again we lost our concentration at the back and we were punished. There was less than ten minutes to go when Hares were awarded a penalty Francis, lacking confidence, asked Javi to take it but he insisted Francis should step up and be confident (which was nice) and he tucked it right in the corner. This was followed by another goal, also from Francis. Zane was awesome in midfield, we’d clearly missed him these last two weeks, Star Player was an easy choice – Zane. Harry, suffering from a chest infection, had maybe his best game for us today and I thought Luca and Kai put in great performances. We definitely needed a good performance after two difficult weeks, the boys really enjoyed today and you could see it really meant a lot to them. Next week will be tough but if we play like that we’ve got every chance. Well done.
The Under 13’s welcomed Letchworth Garden City Eagles to Ralph Sadleir this week. After excellent performances in their last 2 outings, and with the visitors struggling in the League and only having 10 men available, the coaches were full of confidence and were expecting a comfortable win with plenty of goals. However, the boys seemed to have different ideas! Straight from the kick off it was evident that this was not going to be one of The Hares’ better performances, but despite not playing well the home side went into half time with a 2 goal lead thanks to strikes by George C and Jake C-DB. Despite the coaches trying to encourage the boys to get the ball into the spaces out wide it was much more of the same from the home side in the second half, who just couldn’t get their passing going, and sure enough Letchworth were rewarded by their hard work with a goal to make it 2-1. Fortunately for The Hares their 2 goal cushion was restored soon after when George C found the net for his second of the game, only for Letchworth strike again to make in 3-2. An excellent strike by Jake C-DB found the net for his second of the game and a deflected shot from George C completed his hat-trick to make the final score a flattering 5-2 win for The Hares. Despite it not being a great performance by the boys it was another 3 points for the team, which lifted them up to 4th place in the league. Well done to Jake C-DB for his MOTM performance this week.
A disappointing defeat to second place Omonia for the U15s in their premier league match today. They knew it was going to be a tough match in more ways than one but after a wobbly start Hares scored their first goal slotted in by Matt. The visitors soon equalised but Harry put them in front a little while later. With another goal from Matt, Hares went into half time 3-1 up. Unfortunately, soon into the second half Omonia pulled one back. The boys couldn’t seem to get back their first half form and soon the score was 3-3. Only a couple of chances from Hares in the second half but a header was scored by the visitors in the last 10 minutes and the game finished a disappointing 4-3 loss. MOTM was Matt.
