Snow stopped play for the u8s last week, so the boys were fighting fit and raring to go when they kicked off against Letchworth this week. With a slightly later kick off of 11.30am, u8 blacks parents had the opportunity for a rare lie in on the weekend! The game started well and the sides seemed evenly balanced and it was end to end football. It was an opening header from Stanley that got everyone up on their feet, as he continues to prove that he can find the goal with any part of his body! Solid defensive work, with some great passing demonstrated how well the boys are developing. A MOTM performance from Reggie, but a really great effort from all involved.
U8 oranges were away at Biggleswade this weekend and it was a great opportunity for Harvey to make his debut. The boys played really well and our newbie slotted in and clearly loved every minute. Sickness meant we were missing two key players (get well soon Finley and Leo) and with Charlie H away it was always going to be a tough fixture. Ethan stepped up to play in goal and gave a MOTM performance. Well done boys, home next week against FC Comets.
The Under 14’s were due to travel to Potters Bar for their Div 5 Quarter Final clash this weekend, but due to a waterlogged pitch the game was switched to Ralph Sadlier. After an early start for the coaches with a few training cones of sand spread on the worst areas of the pitch, the game finally beat the weather and went ahead.
Potters Bar were showing a lot more resistance in the opening 15 minutes or so of the game than they had previously in the league against The Hares, and the game looked like it was going to be a pretty evenly matched encounter. However on 19 minutes The Hares were awarded a penalty after a handball in the box, and it was Joey Wedge who slotted home to make it 1-0. A minute later Joey was on the score sheet again after he found himself on the edge of the box after a quick throw in by George Clark, and finished with a strong shot to make it 2-0. The game was effectively over 2 minutes later when Man of the Match Barney O’Hara headed home a corner to make it 3-0. Another goal by Barney on 28 mins, this time from a free kick and another by George Clark on the stroke of half time made the score 5-0 to The Hares going into the break. With the rain still falling The Hares seemed to still be in the changing room for the start of the second half, and it was Potters Bar who scored after 3 minutes of the break. Despite this the home side finally woke up and a further 3 goals from Joey (unfortunately I can’t give you times as the rain got the better of my stopwatch) without reply made the score 8-1. With the ref suggesting there was only seconds remaining Joel made his way into the visitors box from his goal and Joey’s free kick found the boot of The Hares’s keeper at the far post to make the final score 9-1 to The Hares! Lemsford await in the semi-final next month.
A week off for The Hares now due to players away for half term, but they will be back to League action against Hoddesdon for their re-arranged all important top of the table clash on Sunday 24th Feb!
