Standon & Puckeridge Hares Youth Football Club is a welcoming, community-based football club in the Hertfordshire village of Puckeridge. Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, we pride ourselves on being a family-focused club where children can enjoy football in a safe, positive, and encouraging environment—regardless of their ability or experience.
Our club is built around the belief that football should be fun, inclusive, and confidence-building. Parents and carers are an important part of the Hares Youth FC family, and their involvement helps create a supportive atmosphere where children can develop not only as players but also as teammates and individuals.
We are proud to work closely with Ralph Sadleir School and the local Parish Council, with the Community Centre providing a home for training and matches across all age groups. These strong local partnerships keep us rooted in the community we serve.
Founded in October 2000 as Hormead Hares FC, the club has a long history of supporting young people through football. Our commitment to volunteers and community spirit has been recognized through FA Charter Standard status and the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Now based in Standon & Puckeridge, the club continues to grow while staying true to its original values. We offer numerous football opportunities for children aged 4 to 18, competing in local leagues on both Saturdays and Sundays, including the Mid Herts League and others.
Our Academy programme (ages 4–6) provides a fun and gentle introduction to football, helping young children build confidence, coordination, and friendships. No previous experience is needed, and each year the Academy forms the pathway into a new Under-7 team, ensuring every child has the chance to progress at their own pace.
At the heart of the Hares Youth FC is a simple goal: to support children and families in our community by making football accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding for everyone involved.
Hares is ideally situated to affiliate with five league systems: The Mid Herts League, Royston Crow Youth Football League, Cambridge & District Colts League, Herts Youth League, and Hertfordshire Girls Football League—offering opportunities to play on Saturdays and Sundays through to the under 18 age group, along with exciting football camps throughout the season.
